Description

We are looking for a skilled Network Engineer to join our team on a long-term contract basis in Sandston, Virginia. In this role, you will play a critical part in auditing network configurations, documenting device connections, and ensuring compliance with established port schedules. Your expertise will contribute to maintaining the integrity and efficiency of our infrastructure.

Responsibilities:

Analyze and interpret port schedule documentation to identify expected network configurations.

Maintain accurate records of end-user devices connected to specific switch ports.

Audit VLAN configurations on network device interfaces and ensure proper setup.

Physically verify connections between end devices and switch ports to match port schedules.

Confirm correct organizational assignments for network device interfaces based on port documentation.

Validate IP addresses and subnet masks on connected devices as needed.

Identify and report misconfigurations or discrepancies to the Project Manager.

Collaborate with the team to ensure compliance with network infrastructure standards.

Utilize network management tools to inspect and document device configurations.

Provide input on improving processes for network audits and documentation.

Requirements

• Solid understanding of networking concepts, including VLANs, subnets, and switch interfaces.
• Strong understanding of TCP/IP
• Proven ability to interpret and work with network documentation and port schedules.
• Hands-on experience with Cisco routers, switches, and similar platforms.
• familiarity with protocols such as Border Gateway Protocol (BGP).
• Proficiency in using network management tools and conducting device inspections.
• Strong attention to detail and accuracy in technical documentation.
• Excellent organizational and communication skills.
• Experience with firewalls, such as Palo Alto and Cisco ASA, is preferred.
