At Action Carting, we blend the professionalism of a large corporation with a supportive, family-style culture that sets us apart. We are currently seeking a Waste Collection CDL Driver to work from our Jersey City Depot (264 Broadway, Jersey City, NJ 07306) , where you will service NYC routes.

This is a full-time, union, non-exempt hourly position with overnight shifts starting between 7pm and 9pm, lasting 10 to 12 hours or until the route is complete. Expect to work alongside a Helper, safely operating a rear-loading truck for the pickup of waste and recyclable materials, and transporting them to designated disposal, transfer, or recycling facilities.

Key Responsibilities:

• Safely operate the truck following company safety standards, OSHA and DOT regulations, and local traffic laws.
• Conduct pre- and post-trip inspections using the Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) and document any issues.
• Ensure that all containers and their contents are secure, performing periodic checks and maintenance as needed.
• Monitor for safety and service-related issues and report them promptly to the Route Supervisor or Dispatch.
• Maintain a professional communication standard with customers and Dispatchers, addressing complaints courteously.
• Attend required training, operational meetings, and monthly safety meetings.
• Keep a clean work area that complies with corporate and OSHA standards.
• Perform additional assigned duties as needed.

Requirements:

• Must be at least 21 years old and legally eligible to work in the U.S.
• Valid Class A or B CDL and a clean driving record are required.
• A minimum of 1 year of experience operating a CDL vehicle in the past 7 years is preferred, particularly in waste collection.
• Knowledge of DOT and OSHA regulations is essential.
• Ability to read and speak English effectively for communication and documentation purposes.
• Proficiency in reading maps is necessary.
• Must meet physical and safety requirements for the position and be willing to work varied hours, including nights and weekends as needed.

Physical Requirements:

• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and frequently mount and dismount the truck during shifts.
• Willingness to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
