Introduction: This recruitment is for a part-time contractual position that will work less than or equal to 20 hours per week.

GRADE: PSYC 0002

LOCATION OF POSITION: MDH Office of Court Ordered Evaluations and Placements, 201 W. Preston Street, Baltimore, MD 21201

Main Purpose of Job: The main purpose of this part-time contractual position is to conduct court ordered evaluations for individuals aged 18 and over. Evaluations include competency to stand trial, criminal responsibility, presentence evaluations for defendants convicted of sexual abuse of a minor, re-evaluations of individuals found incompetent to stand trial, substance use disorder evaluations, and Firearm Rights Restoration evaluations. Evaluations are conducted in local detention centers and within the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) healthcare system. Evaluations are documented in the MDH standard format and submitted to the court within the statutory timeframe. This position also provides expert forensic testimony when required by the court or MDH.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: Determined by the Maryland State Board of Physicians under the licensing requirements for Physicians. Experience: As required for certification in Psychiatry by the American Medical Association Specialty Board or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: The desired candidate should possess completion of a forensic psychiatry fellowship and have at least three (3) years experience independently conducting evaluations of competency to stand trial and criminal responsibility.

LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS:

  1. Applicants must be board certified in Psychiatry by the American Board of Medical Specialties or other Board approved by the Maryland Board of Physicians.
  2. Applicants must be licensed by the Maryland Board of Physicians to practice medicine under Maryland State Law.

A copy of a current Maryland medical license and board certification should be attached to the application.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: Employees in this classification are subject to substance abuse testing in accordance with Code of Maryland Regulations 17.04.09, Testing for Illegal Use of Drugs.

BENEFITS: Contractual employees who work for an agency covered under the State Employee and Retiree Health and Welfare Benefits Program, have a current employment contract and work 30 or more hours a week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. As a contractual employee, you will be responsible for paying 25% of the premiums for your medical and prescription coverage.
